Why choose a homebirth midwife?

Maybe you’ve already birthed one of your babies at home or maybe you are exploring home birth for the first time. Either way, I’m here to tenderly guide you on your journey, because that’s what midwives do. Long before birth was brought into the hospital setting, it occurred in the home as a normal part of life, because it is! My job is to earn your trust, honor your hopes, and ensure you are well supported and cared for holistically through your entire birth experience. It’s not only my job though…it’s my joy!

More about Midwifery Care with Servant’s Heart

  • A Midwife is a specially trained skilled care provider who focuses on caring for women, families, and newborns during the childbearing year. Midwives practice client-centered care in which the clients hopes, preferences, and needs are placed at the center of the care model as a primary guide for their experience. At the center of my relationship with my clients, is trust. This trust is developed intentionally in our time together before, during, and after your birth.

  • I have a custom birth kit curated here specifically for my clients to purchase that includes all they’ll need for their birth. Additionally, I have a birth pool available for clients to borrow or can recommend one for purchase.

  • Emergencies happen, although less than you would probably think, however my team and I are prepared, practiced, & peaceful when they arise. I carry emergency medicines, oxygen. & supplies with me at all times. Additionally, my team and myself carry certification in Neonatal Resuscitation. I keep thorough records throughout your pregnancy and birth should an emergency arise so that your transition to other care will be smooth. I also partner with a local hospital provider should the setting of your birth need to change in an emergent situation.

  • Generally, homebirth is less costly than hospital birth. The care you receive from Servant’s Heart includes prenatal & postpartum care, virtual support in between visits should you have questions or concerns, and attendance at your birth as well as initial newborn exams. The total cost comes to $5,128.00. See my FAQ page to learn more about how to discern if your insurance will help with the cost of care.

More about my journey as a midwife…

1994: The Calling

I gave birth to my eldest daughter Maya under the capable care of a Homebirth Midwife. God placed a calling on my life to become a Midwife.

1997: A Dream Begins

I graduated in 1997 with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa. I then began serving as a Labor & Delivery Nurse.

2002: A Dream Unfolds

After apprenticing for two and half years with a wonderful Homebirth Midwife in Arkansas, I met all the requirements for licensure, and became a licensed Arkansas Midwife.

2003: A Dream Waits…

I moved to Missouri and worked as a Labor & Delivery Nurse and attended homebirths as well, while my husband completed his college degree.

2008: A Dream Returns

We moved our family to Peoria, IL where I continued working as a Labor & Delivery Nurse and assisted local homebirth midwives as a birth assistant, once again helping women safely & comfortably birth their babies at home.

Today: Living the Dream

In 2015, I earned my Master’s & became a Certified Nurse Midwife. Today, with over 25 years of experience in maternity care, I continue to serve women & families in their homes in a variety of locations across Central, IL as well as at my cozy Normal, IL office space. God has blessed me with a booming practice and a wonderful homebirth community!
